Herbalism Apprenticeship Year 1

Join us for a foundational herbalism program with Clinical Herbalist Katie Ryan, Owner, Of the Earth Apothecary.

This is a 8 month, in person foundational herbalism program intended for beginners or those looking to deepen their knowledge and experience. We will meet once per month for a full day in person, and have 1 Q+A online per month as a follow up to the previous class.

During this course, you will learn practical, foundational ways to support yourself and your family through common ailments with herbs. You’ll build your herbal toolkit to help with common ailments, for example the common cold, headaches, digestive upset, etc.   We will spend time making herbal medicine so that you feel confident in creating your own remedies. Through out the course you’ll grow your herbal vocabulary, understand the different herbal tastes and energetics, and so much more.

Why do we dive into herbal medicine making in this foundational course? Well, its one thing to understand the medicinal properties of herbs, but the real learning comes in experiencing them in your own body! Trying to make herbal medicine by yourself in your kitchen while following along a “how to” video can be frustrating and confusing! Sitting in circle with your herbal community and teacher is a much easier way to learn, and how we as humans are intended to interact with herbs and the earth. Learning online can only get you so far, but in person experiential opportunities are really where the foundations and a deeper, more embodied understanding are built.

You will learn how to make many different herbal preparations, including teas, tinctures, oxymels, glycerites, syrups, electuaries, herbal infused oils, salves, natural skin care as well as some other fun herbal preparations.

You will gradually build your home apothecary through out the program as we discuss which herbs you should always have on hand at home and how to properly store your herbs for longest shelf life. We will learn herbs in the year 1 program that are safe for majority of people and effective for a wide variety of ailments.

You will meet your plant allies, and learn how to listen to your own body, connect with the natural world, hear the messages of the plants and connect deeply back to the earths rhythms.

~We will meet on the following dates, in person from 11am-4pm; March 20, April 24, May 22, June 19, July 17, August 21, Sept 18, Oct 16. All classes will be held in Monmouth County, NJ. Exact locations will be disclosed before our first class.

~We will meet on the following dates, online from 7-8pm; dates TBD, all Q+A’s will be recorded if you aren’t able to make it live.

Upon completion of the course with adequate attendance, completion of your yearly project and homework assignments, you will be given a certificate of completion. You will also have the opportunity to continue onto year 2 of the program if you wish.

We are keeping this group intimate and will cap it at 15 or so people. If you are feeling the call to join us, we recommend signing up as soon as you are able. Since this is an in person course, we don’t have the ability to offer it to an unlimited amount of people.

There is an option to pay in full, and there is also an option for a payment plan in order to make this course more accessible. Click “View Options” to be taken to the next page where you can choose your payment method.
